CBM is a sound alternative to traditional fuels, and a more environmentally responsible source of energy.

Indonesia currently imports about 300,000 barrels of crude oil per year, much of which is used for power generation. Observers indicate current Government production targets of 970,000 bpd may not be reached.  

CBM is a largely untapped resource and an attractive alternative in several ways.  At depths of around 1,000 metres, CBM requires smaller drilling rigs and therefore less impact on the environment when it is extracted. As a flammable gas CBM burns more efficiently than oil and produces fewer pollutants making it an ideal choice for electrical power generation.

Ephindo is currently in the planning stages for supplying an electrical power generating station for Sangatta. CBM pipelined from our wells to an electrical power generating station is ignited in a combustion chamber. The hot gas outflow turns a turbine fan and an electrical generator and the heat converts water into steam to power a second generator. This combined process produces electrical energy using 50-70 per cent less CO2 emitted compared to a coal fired power station.
